Description

Registered Nurse (RN) – MS/Telemetry Float Pool

Location: Garden City, Kansas
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Float pool position covering multiple units within a 60-mile radius zone around Garden City, KS.
  • Units include Medical-Surgical Telemetry (MS-Tele) and specialties such as Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Orthopedics, Trauma, and Emergency Department Observation.
  • No home base facility; nurses must be prepared to float to any facility within the zone.
  • Schedule released 4–6 weeks in advance with two formats:
    • Assigned to a single facility for the week with possible floating within that facility.
    • Just-In-Time (JIT) assignments where facility is assigned 1–2 hours before shift start.
  • Shifts are 12 hours, night shift.
  • Weekend requirement: 6–9 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule.
  • Holiday rotation participation may be required.
  • Rare call or standby requirements for low census situations.

Patient Population & Care

  • Adult to geriatric patients with diagnoses including:
    • Cardiac, Neurological, Orthopedic, Oncology, Renal, Urology post-surgical, General Surgery post-appendectomy, Gynecology, Psychiatry/Detox, ENT, General Medicine, and stable long-term placement patients.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:5-6 depending on acuity.
  • Charge nurse designated on each unit; usually does not take patient assignments unless necessary.
  • Nurse aids are available on the units.
  • Respiratory therapy equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPAP are present.
  • Heparin drip titration required.

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license valid in Kansas.
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical Telemetry (MS-Tele) nursing experience within the last 3 years.
  • ACLS (American Heart Association), BLS (American Heart Association), and NIHSS certifications required.
  • Preferred experience with neurological patients.
  • Preferred experience with Alaris infusion pumps and EPIC electronic medical records system.

Orientation & Hiring Process

  • Orientation week requires clinician to be physically present in-state, even if some modules are completed remotely.
  • Candidate interview conducted by clinical team; no unit manager involvement.

Additional Notes

  • Nurses must secure housing that allows floating throughout the entire 60-mile zone.
  • Floating assignments may include ICU (low acuity holds within skill set), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele units.
  • Schedules are made by leadership; travelers must be flexible to fill gaps in permanent staffing.
  • All time off requests must be submitted before starting the assignment.
