Description
Registered Nurse – PCU (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Overview
- Unit: Acute Leukemia and Hematology
- Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Schedule: Rotating 12-hour day/night shifts possible; shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but subject to staffing needs
- Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics, primarily newly diagnosed acute leukemia patients
- Staffing Ratios: Target 1:4, may be up to 1:5
- Orientation:
- Week 1: Monday to Friday, day shift
- Week 2: 36 hours on-unit orientation with a preceptor
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling requests accepted before final schedule is set
- Special Focus Areas: Infection prevention protocols, patient falls prevention
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with PCU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- Proficient in interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Experience in peripheral line care and management
- Experience in PICC line management
Preferred Certifications
- ONS Chemotherapy Certification (not required)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (may be required depending on unit)
Background and Screening Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide search, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is required
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using specific Ohio codes; must be completed prior to start
- Education verification: Graduate of an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA accreditation required)
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership role
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
- TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test renewal
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Measles (Rubeola) – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
- Mumps – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
- Rubella – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
- Hepatitis B – Titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted)
- Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) – adult dose after age 11/12 required
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); decliners must wear a mask
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending results allowed)
Additional Requirements
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policies
- Completion of fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate prior to start and annually thereafter
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment
- Compliance with ethics and compliance policies, reviewed and signed annually
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
