    Description

    Registered Nurse (RN) – Float Pool (MS/Telemetry) – Colorado Springs Zone

    Location

    • Based in Colorado Springs, CO area (Zone 1)
    • Must float within a 60-mile radius covering multiple facilities including hospitals in Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Canon City
    • No home base facility; must be able to travel and float throughout the entire zone

    Contract Length

    • 13 weeks

    Schedule & Shifts

    • 12-hour shifts (7 PM – 7 AM)
    • 36 hours per week
    • Schedules released 4–6 weeks in advance
    • Two scheduling formats:
      • Assigned to a single facility for the week with possible floating within that facility
      • Just-In-Time (JIT) assignments given 1–2 hours before shift start
    • Weekend requirement: 6–9 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule
    • May be required to participate in holiday rotation
    • Rare call or standby requirements for low census situations
    • Time off requests must be submitted before assignment start

    Float Pool & Units

    • Float across multiple units including:
      • General Medical-Surgical Telemetry
      • Cardiac
      • Neurology
      • Oncology
      • Rehabilitation
      • Renal
      • Bariatrics
      • Orthopedics
      • Trauma
      • Emergency Department Observation
    • May be asked to float to ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele units

    Patient Population & Nurse:Patient Ratios

    • Adult to geriatric patients
    • Common diagnoses include cardiac, neuro, orthopedic, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery post-appendectomy, gynecology, psychiatric/detox, ENT, general medicine, and stable long-term placement patients
    • Nurse:patient ratio typically 1:5-6 depending on acuity

    Required Certifications

    • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – AHA
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

    Experience & Skills

    • Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical Telemetry nursing experience required
    • Prior neurology experience preferred
    • Ability to titrate heparin drips

    Orientation

    • Week of orientation requires clinician to be in-state, even if some modules are remote

    Additional Information

    • Designated charge nurse on each unit who generally does not take patient assignments unless necessary (more common on night shifts)
    • Nurse aides are available on units
    • Respiratory therapy equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPAP are present on units
    • Floating assignments communicated on or before Monday start date for each schedule
    • Travelers responsible for securing housing that allows floating within the full 60-mile zone
