Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work shifts include a combination of 2 eight-hour and 2 twelve-hour shifts, scheduled between 6:30 AM and 11:00 PM, including call hours.
- Call hours start at 7:00 PM on weekdays and include weekend call divided into 12-hour blocks, distributed equitably among staff on a 4-week rotation.
- Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet unit needs.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Minimum of 1 year of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Experience in transplant nursing.
- Experience in trauma nursing.
- Proficiency with Epic electronic medical record system.
Required Certifications
- NIH Stroke Certification (must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years)
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., ACLS for certain units effective 11/13/25).
Required Skills
- Proficiency in General Operating Room procedures.
- Experience with Cardiovascular, Thoracic, Vascular, and Transplant surgeries.
- Charting experience with EPIC electronic medical record system is mandatory.
Licensure
- Must hold an active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Ohio.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including SS Trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide search, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is required. FBI and BCI fingerprinting results must be obtained prior to start.
- Education must be from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Monthly monitoring through workforce monitoring systems is required.
- Completion of Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate prior to start and updated annually.
- Compliance with dress code, hand hygiene, and ethics policies, reviewed and signed annually.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within one year of start confirming good health and freedom from contagious disease.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene).
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer, medical exemptions reviewed)
- Hepatitis B (titer or 3-vaccine series, declination acceptable)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose required)
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive, plus TB questionnaire.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or mask-wearing if declined during flu season (10/1 - 3/31).
- COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended but not required.
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%, max 3 attempts).
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required prior to start.
- Unit-specific competency exams may be required.
Additional Information
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.
- Parking permits available for purchase but at candidate’s expense.
- Fingerprinting must be completed using specific Ohio codes and within one year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days.
- Candidates must complete all required background checks, certifications, and health documentation prior to start.
This position is ideal for experienced CVOR RNs with strong cardiac and trauma backgrounds who are flexible with scheduling and call responsibilities.
