Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel Position
Location: Cortez, Colorado
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night Shift (6 PM - 6 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Summary
Provide nursing care to patients in Labor and Delivery with willingness to train in Nursery and Recovery areas. Administer safe, efficient, and courteous care using appropriate nursing procedures. Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development, disease processes, and clinical assessment to meet patient needs. Utilize information technology for documentation and evidence-based care.
Key Responsibilities
- Practice within nursing standards, policies, and accreditation requirements.
- Provide patient-centered care, teamwork, and customer service.
- Understand telemetry monitoring and basic arrhythmia interpretation.
- Supervise non-professional staff and assist physicians with patient care and procedures.
- Administer medications following protocols, including controlled substances, using EMAR and scanning.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with organizational ethics and compliance programs.
- Participate in in-service training, departmental meetings, resuscitation drills, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Assist nursing staff in other departments as needed.
- Initiate and revise patient care plans based on standards and patient status.
- Document nursing care accurately and timely using technology.
- Demonstrate flexibility with working hours and shifts to meet staffing needs.
Unit-Specific Duties
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU) care including advanced cardiac monitoring, critical drips, ventilator/BiPAP management, CVP and A-line monitoring, rapid sequence intubation, trauma alerts.
- Family Birthing Center (FBC) duties including fetal monitoring, NST, epidural, induction, antepartum/intrapartum/postpartum care, newborn care (delivery to discharge), hearing screening, pre-term care, infant security, EMTALA, CCHD screening, phototherapy.
- Procedural sedation support.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Colorado.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience in a clinical setting.

- Basic computer proficiency and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to supervise and support team members and students.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Exposure to infectious waste, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and occasional foul odors.
- Moderate to loud noise levels; possible interactions with aggressive patients or visitors.
- Possible exposure to environmental elements (heat, cold, precipitation, wind).
- Physical demands include lifting up to 100 lbs occasionally, frequent kneeling, crouching, reaching, talking, hearing, and color vision requirements.
