Description
Registered Nurse (NICU) - Travel Position
Location: San Antonio, Texas
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Provide routine and complex nursing care in a Level 4 NICU, caring for patients ranging from feeder growers to complex ICU neonatal patients.
- Practice independently with awareness of all relevant clinical aspects.
- Manage clinical situations by making appropriate assignments and delegating to other care providers.
- Patient ratios vary between 1:2, 1:3, or 1:4; CNAs support 1:4 assignments.
Work Schedule
- Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekends per six weeks, including two Mondays and two Fridays
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care consistent with ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Address complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
- Administer medications and treatments per protocol; monitor for side effects and effectiveness.
- Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
- Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, families, and caregivers.
- Meet organizational competency expectations as a Leader of Self, Others, or Leaders.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing or higher.
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas.
- Current BLS Certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current STABLE certification.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
Orientation & Onboarding
- Newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within 30 days of hire.
- New hires receive preceptorship by a trained staff member and must complete organizational and Perinatal Services-specific competency validations.
- Completion of all annual competency verification requirements is mandatory.
