Registered Nurse – Cardiac Telemetry/Stepdown Unit

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts (7 PM – 7 AM), 36 hours per week
Unit: 6N Cardiac/Telemetry Progressive Care Unit (Stepdown)
Unit Size: 36 beds

Unit Overview

  • Higher acuity telemetry unit with stepdown level care.

  • No arterial lines or sheath pulling required.
  • Unit uses Phillips telemetry monitors; RNs must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips.
  • Respiratory therapy manages CPAP and BiPAP; nurses are not expected to manage respiratory equipment.

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios

  • MedSurg/Telemetry acuity: typically 1:5, rarely 1:6 (only if anticipating discharge).
  • Progressive Care Unit acuity: 1:4.
  • Charge nurse available 24/7; night charge nurse takes patient assignments.
  • CNAs assigned approximately 1 per 9 patients; team nursing model with 1 RN and 1 CNA for 6-7 patients.

Required Certifications & Licensure

  • Current BLS (American Heart Association) certification required.
  • Valid, unexpired driver’s license required (due to 50-mile radius rule for submissions).
  • Must hold an active RN license.

Clinical Skills & Experience

  • Must be able to titrate cardiac drips including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Integrelin, Heparin, Ativan, Lasix, and Nitro (up to 50 mcg).
  • Experience as a Stepdown RN preferred due to higher acuity and drip titration requirements.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
  • No specific minimum years of specialty experience stated, but higher acuity and skills suggest experienced RN preferred.

Scheduling & Work Requirements

  • Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday).
  • Holiday shifts included in permanent staff rotation.
  • Floating may be required to other MedSurg/Telemetry units.
  • Dress code: Royal blue scrubs for RNs.
  • No false nails allowed.

Additional Notes

  • Unit is considered higher acuity than typical telemetry units.
  • Orientation details not specified but expect unit-specific preceptorship.
  • Charge nurse coverage 24/7 with variable patient assignment responsibilities.

This position is ideal for RNs with cardiac telemetry and stepdown experience who are comfortable managing titratable drips and higher acuity patients in a progressive care setting.

Bethany has been working with me on a couple contracts as a travel PT. She has been extremely responsive and supportive. She was able to help me navigate a contract with a difficult facility and expeditiously find a new contract for me in the same area.
