Description
Registered Nurse (Cardiac Stepdown) - Morgantown, West Virginia
Position Details
- Specialty: Cardiac Stepdown RN
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Hours per Week: 36 hours
- Unit: Stepdown (32 beds total: 22 stepdown beds, 10 floor beds)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Stepdown: 1:3
- Floor: 1:5 or 1:6
- Dress Code: Royal blue scrubs
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling with Kronos; block scheduling allowed
- Weekend Requirements:
- Night shift: 3-4 Saturdays and Sundays, 2 Fridays, and 2 Mondays in a 4-week period
- Weekend nightshift: every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- Holiday Requirements: One evening and one day shift during major holidays (e.g., Black Friday or Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day)
- Call/Standby: None
- Floating: Yes; travelers are first to be floated, typically 1 out of every 3 shifts to floor assignments
Patient Population & Care
- Common Diagnoses: Cardiology, heart failure, cardiac surgery, medical-surgical patients
- Typical Equipment: Nasal cannula, CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, trach to vent (dedicated respiratory therapist on unit)
- Telemetry Monitoring: Tele techs monitor and record strips; Phillips monitoring system used
- Drip Management: RNs are required to titrate drips including heparin, insulin, nitroglycerin, Cardizem, nicardipine, Lasix, amiodarone, and dobutamine
Team Structure
- Dedicated charge nurse on shift (may take 1-3 patients depending on staffing)
- Three house supervisors present in the building at all times
- Clinical associates (nurse aides) support the unit; typically 2 overnight (1:16 ratio), budgeted for 4 (1:8 ratio)
Required Certifications & Skills
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Preferred: Cardiac nursing experience
- EPIC electronic health record experience preferred
Orientation & Training
- Unit-specific orientation provided
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license valid in West Virginia
- Must disclose any license hits at time of application
