Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM - 6:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 48 hours
Job Description
- Must have critical care experience within the last 12 months.
- Pediatric experience is preferred but not required; training in pediatrics is available.
- Required to work all scheduled shifts; scheduling requests outside approved time off (RTO) cannot be accommodated.
- Weekend work required every other weekend.
- No on-call duties.
- No floating outside scope of practice.
- Open to block scheduling.
- Local candidates accepted.
Patient Population & Unit Details
- Units: Burn Pediatric ICU (BPICU), Surgical ICU (SICU), Medical ICU (MICU), Neuroscience ICU (NSICU).
- Patient population includes all ages, with a generally small pediatric population.
- High volume of adult trauma and burn patients, including medically and neurologically complex cases.
- Frequent patients with tracheostomies and spinal cord injuries.
- Exposure to complex sleep-disordered breathing cases.
- Busy Emergency Department with Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) transfers.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Washington.
- Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience.
- Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience working with adult patients.
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients.
- Critical care experience within the last 12 months.
Additional Requirements
- Must pass a 7-year criminal background check including nationwide and state-specific searches.
- Must complete facility-specific orientation modules and competency exams prior to start.
- Mask fit test required within 12 months of start date (3M 1860R, 1860S, or 1870+ masks).
- Required immunizations or documented immunity:
- Tdap (within 10 years) or declination on file.
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (titer or 2 vaccines).
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination).
- Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines).
- Annual influenza vaccination or declination during flu season.
- COVID-19 vaccination or declination for tracking purposes.
- Negative TB test (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive TB history. Annual TB questionnaire required.
- Drug screening within the past 12 months (required by agency, not facility).
- Two professional references required.
Facility & Work Environment
- Level I Trauma Center, Magnet recognized, and teaching hospital.
- Charting system: Epic with hard stops.
- Scrub color: Any solid color scrubs allowed; light blue scrubs provided on unit.
- Parking: Onsite parking available with daily fees; offsite parking with shuttle service available on weekdays.
Notes for Candidates
- First-time travelers accepted; prior travel experience is not required.
- Pending licenses are not accepted.
- Candidates must complete all required documentation and training modules before starting.
- Facility requires signing of various acknowledgments and forms including job description, license acknowledgment, equipment safety, policies and procedures, and code of conduct.
- Orientation testing is pass/fail with an 80% passing score required; failure may result in cancellation.
- Suicide prevention training and demographic attestation required for nurses using out-of-state compact licenses working in Washington State.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity, trauma-focused respiratory care environment with a supportive teaching hospital setting.
