Description

Registered Nurse - MICU (Intensive Care Unit)

Location: Tulsa, Oklahoma
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45 - 7:15)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide patient care in the Intensive Care Unit during night shifts.
  • Coordinate nursing care based on clinical nursing practice standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective patient care and positive outcomes.
  • Perform patient assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate patient progress.
  • Delegate tasks to unlicensed personnel in compliance with nursing board regulations.
  • Conduct discharge planning and patient/family education on illness and injury prevention.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and perform other assigned duties.
  • Must be proficient in neurological care, comfortable managing ventilators, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oklahoma.
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • 2 years or more of total travel nursing experience.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Certifications:
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Proficiency in neurological care and neurology experience.
  • Comfortable managing ventilators.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID.
  • Successful completion of a 7-year background check (including SS trace, county searches, sex offender registry, education verification).
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start.
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start.
  • Fit test for approved masks within 1 year of start, renewed annually.
  • Immunizations and/or titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines)
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella (positive titer, 2 vaccines, or documented chickenpox history)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31). Declinations not accepted.
  • Completion of unit-specific skills checklist annually.
  • Work history verification for the past 7 years.
  • Completion of employment application/resume submission.

Additional Notes

  • Scrub color for this unit is navy.
  • Orientation and safety manual acknowledgment required.
  • Must be able to pass medication/pharmacology competency exams and color blindness testing as applicable.
  • Fingerprinting may be required onsite during orientation for certain placements.

This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses with prior travel experience who are comfortable working nights in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment and have strong neurological and ventilator management skills.
