Description
Registered Nurse – PACU (Night Shift) – Columbus, Ohio
Job Type
- Travel/Contract position
- Contract length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- 40 hours per week
- Night shift hours primarily 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM
- Shift pattern varies between:
- Five 8-hour shifts (11p-7a), or
- Two 8-hour shifts (11p-7a) plus two 12-hour shifts (7p-7a) when covering weekends
- Includes weekend and holiday night shift coverage
- No on-call required
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA provider or instructor accepted; letter of completion not accepted
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA provider or instructor accepted; letter of completion not accepted
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (required within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years for certain units; otherwise any NIH certification completed within 1 year of start is acceptable)
- Additional certifications may be unit-specific; verify as needed
Required Skills and Experience
- Specialty: Registered Nurse in PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit)
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
- Experience with telemetry and ventilators
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exams required
Required Licenses
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- License verification must be completed within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification required for RN license
Background and Screening Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including:
- Social Security trace
- Counties lived/worked
- Nationwide search
- Sex offender registry
- Motor Vehicle Record (if driving is part of the job)
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required using code 3701.881; must be completed within 1 year of start
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
- Education accreditation verification required for nursing degree from an accredited program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive TB test
- TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12) required; exemptions not allowed if working with infants or pregnant patients
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (signed declination acceptable)
- Varicella immunity via 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity via 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer and no proof of vaccines
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); decliners must wear a mask
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start; new travelers cannot start with pending drug screen
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended; proof of primary vaccination collected if available
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policy
- Annual completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgment
- Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually for new contracts
- Confidential fraud, waste, and abuse reporting mechanism form required for all candidates
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum of 1 year of recent PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) experience
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Trauma experience
- Telemetry experience
