Registered Nurse (Surgery) - Travel Position

Location: Lake Charles, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Monday to Friday

Job Summary

Provide independent nursing care in a surgical setting, managing routine and complex patient needs. Demonstrate clinical judgment and leadership by making appropriate assignments and delegating tasks to support patient care.

Patient Population & Case Types

• Limited Pediatric (orthopedic only)
• Adult and Geriatric patients
• Surgical specialties include:

  • Orthopedics (Mako total knees, total hip, gamma nails)
  • Podiatry (bunion, ankle scopes, ankle and foot fractures)
  • Hand (fractures, CMC)
  • Spine/Crani (ALIF, DLIF, TLIF, Kypho, Crani)
  • General surgery (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia, colon, robotic surgery)
  • Urology (TURP, cystoscopy, stones)

Float coverage may include a secondary campus with cases in Pain, ENT (including pediatric), Urology, Gynecology, Podiatry, General surgery, and some Orthopedics.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care following the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation
• Address psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families
• Administer medications and treatments per protocol, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness
• Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided
• Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, families, and caregivers
• Participate in on-call rotation 1-2 times per week and every third weekend (Friday-Sunday)
• Float between surgical campuses as needed, primarily in the Operating Room
• Maintain a 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Louisiana
• OR - Operating Room experience within the last year
• BLS
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Work Schedule & Requirements

• Full-time travel assignment
• Shift: 11 AM to 7 PM, Monday through Friday
• On-call 1-2 times per week and every third weekend
• Floating between two surgical campuses as needed

Additional Notes

• This role requires flexibility to float between campuses and cover a variety of surgical specialties primarily in the OR setting.
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
