Job Opportunity: Home Health Registered Nurse
Location: Sarasota, Florida
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 20 weeks
Job Description
- Provide skilled home care nursing (Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and Commercial insurance patients).
- Perform 6-8 home skilled visits per day.
- Patient care includes cardiopulmonary assessment, wound care (basic, ABI compression dressing, wound vac dressing), Pleurx/Aseptdrain care, Foley catheter care and changes, staple/suture removal, glucometer use, pro-time machine use, SQ/IM injections, lab draw venipuncture, IV skills, PICC line or Midline care and dressing changes, SQ port access/deaccess.
- Manage general medical diagnoses and high-risk diagnoses such as heart failure (HF), COPD, myocardial infarction (MI), pneumonia, and stroke.
- Provide post-operative care.
- Work hours vary based on HomeCare office needs, generally Monday-Friday with some weekend shifts; typical shifts are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
- Visits and hours are self-scheduled based on office needs.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Florida.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 1 year of home health nursing experience, with experience within the last year required.
- Experience in a Home Care setting.
- Experience in a Home Health setting.
- Experience with OASIS.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Current driver’s license and auto insurance active throughout assignment.
- Background checks including nationwide and state-level searches, education verification, and federal exclusions screening.
- Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint clearance required prior to start; must be current and resubmitted every 5 years.
- Physical exam within 6 months of start date.
- Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 10 weeks of start; chest X-ray and TB questionnaire if prior positive PPD.
- Annual TB questionnaire required in lieu of annual TB test.
- Immunizations or titers for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Standard 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted).
- COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption required.
- Respirator medical clearance if respirator use is required.
- Photo for badge with solid background, no filters or cropped images.
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start (approx. 4-8 hours).
- References: Two professional references from the past 2 years required.
- Employment application and skills checklist must be submitted and approved.
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with a minimum score of 80%.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (100% lethal arrhythmia score) required for RNs in specified units.
- Color blindness test required prior to start.
- Stroke education CEUs (8 total credits) including NIH Stroke Certification and Modified Rankin Scale (mRS) certification required for applicable units.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required if working in behavioral health or emergency room settings (not mandatory for this role).
Work Environment & Additional Information
- Use of laptop, MiFi internet access, and portable printers provided.
- Documentation completed via electronic systems specific to home care nursing.
- Dress code and tobacco policy compliance required.
- Must comply with facility privacy policies and complete all required affidavits and demographic forms.
- Candidates must be prepared for possible alternating weekend shifts and variable scheduling.
