Description
Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST)
Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Evenings, 5 days a week (5x8), 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (40 hours/week)
On-Call: Required
Schedule: Includes weekends in rotation; occasional float to other campuses
Job Description
- Assist in preparing for and during surgery by performing routine and delegated duties according to department and hospital standards to ensure quality patient care.
- Must be strong in Neuro, Spine, and Orthopedic surgical services.
- Experience with Neuro, Spine, Orthopedics, and DaVinci surgical systems required.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or NBSTSA certification
- Minimum 1 year of Certified Surgical Technologist experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent educational attainment
- Experience in Neuro, Spine, Total Joint, and Orthopedic surgical services
- Experience with DaVinci surgical system
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 6 months of start, including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC Sanctions List, and Medi-Cal Suspended and Ineligible Provider List checks required as applicable.
- Education verification required unless highest education is high school.
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law).
- TB screening questionnaire within 90 days of start, renewed annually; negative TB test or chest x-ray required.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance for work.
- Fit test for approved masks within 1 year of start, renewed annually.
- Immunizations required: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (with titers or vaccines as applicable).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30).
- Respiratory safety clearance required prior to start, renewed annually.
Certifications (as applicable)
- ACLS, PALS, NRP, CCRN, TNCC, EFM, CPI, NIH Stroke Certification, and others may be required depending on position specifics.
- State license verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start.
- Venipuncture/IV certification may be required depending on role.
Additional Requirements
- Must provide full 7 years of work history with no gaps, including city and state of employment.
- Two professional references required within 3 years for clinical and allied health positions.
- Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be renewed annually.
- Candidate must review and sign facility-specific documents including job description, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, overpayment refund policy, and regulatory orientation prior to start.
- Religious exemption forms available for facial hair (PAPR) and certain vaccine requirements; approvals handled on a case-by-case basis.
Notes
- Candidate may be required to float occasionally to other campuses.
- Onsite EKG exam required for ICU RNs at certain locations after start.
- Failed fit tests due to facial hair require shaving and retesting; other failures require PAPR training.
- Candidates with positive TB history must provide negative chest x-ray within 1 year of start.
- Candidates with medical or religious exemptions for immunizations must complete specific exemption forms; declinations are not accepted without proper documentation.
This position is ideal for experienced Certified Surgical Technologists with strong expertise in Neuro, Spine, Orthopedics, and DaVinci surgical systems seeking a travel contract in a California hospital setting with evening shifts and on-call responsibilities.
