Description
Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a high-risk, high-acuity, and fast-paced Labor & Delivery (L&D) unit with an average daily census of 15 patients and 500-600 deliveries per month.
- Float between postpartum and antepartum units, including sister facilities that provide Mother/Baby care.
- Patient population includes midwifery clients, private OBs, adult recovery services (substance recovery), and community care clinics.
- Unit includes 4 operating rooms.
- Functions include circulating during delivery, newborn care (eyes, thighs, assessments), and administration of medications such as Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate.
- Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines.
- EPIC electronic medical record system and electronic fetal monitoring are used (EPIC hard stop requirement).
- Schedule posted every 6 weeks; work every other weekend and holidays as needed.
- Pre-approved time off considered on a case-by-case basis.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Washington.
- Minimum 3 years of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year.
- Experience working with high-risk patients.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification or training.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Orientation
- Reduced Non-Billable Orientation (0 hours vs. standard 40 hours).
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, updated annually.
- Education verification required (nursing degree).
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation.
- Immunizations and health requirements:
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years (declination accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted)
- COVID vaccination record preferred (declinations not required)
- Respirator clearance required annually for travel candidates.
- Fit mask testing required for travel candidates (updated annually).
Additional Requirements
- Must complete annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via assigned LMS.
- Must complete electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) training or hold valid EFM certification (AWHONN or NCC).
- Must acknowledge and comply with float policy (may be required to float to other nearby facilities).
- Must provide government-issued photo ID and Social Security card as applicable.
- Must complete WA Multi-State Licensed Nurses Demographic Attestation if working with an out-of-state compact license in Washington.
Notes
- First-time travel nurses accepted.
- Candidates separated from other Providence facilities for at least 3 months are eligible for travel contracts.
- Locals receive the same rate as travelers.
- No submission without proof of required certifications and references.
- Prior travel experience is not required.
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs with strong high-risk and newborn care skills seeking a travel contract in a dynamic, high-volume hospital setting.
