Description
Registered Nurse - Medical-Surgical
Location: San Antonio, Texas
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Hours per Week: 36
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Call Requirement: None
Unit Information
- Unit: Surgical
- Number of Beds: 40
- Patient Ratios: 1:5 to 1:6
- Staffing Support: 1 Unit Coordinator (days), 3 Patient Care Assistants (days), 2-3 Patient Care Assistants (nights)
- Documentation System: Meditech
- Floating: Required as needed (all travelers must float per facility policy)
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS Certification
- Experience with MEDITECH documentation system
Preferred Skills
- Tracheostomy care
- Wound VACs and large dressing changes
- 3-way bladder irrigation
- Patient teaching and communication board use
Procedures Performed on Unit
- All surgical procedures
- Trauma patient care
- Management of large wounds
Dress Code and Appearance Guidelines
- Scrubs: Navy scrub top and pants; navy or white scrub jacket
- Nails: No acrylics, nails no longer than ¼ inch, clean, no chipped polish
- Hair: Off shoulders, natural color
- Tattoos: Should be covered whenever possible; uncovered body art addressed individually
- Piercings: Only ear piercings visible; all others prohibited
Additional Notes
- Floating is mandatory during assignment
- No call responsibilities
- Attendance and floating policies strictly enforced
