Description

Job Opportunity: RN Emergency Room

Location: Wichita, Kansas
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 3:00 PM – 3:30 AM
Schedule: Every other weekend, no on-call required
Electronic Health Record (EHR) System: Cerner OneChart
Uniform: Blue scrubs


Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Kansas
  • Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (American Heart Association)
    • PALS (American Heart Association)
    • ACLS
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)

Onboarding and Compliance Requirements

  • Professional Documentation:

    • Resume/Profile submission required
    • At least two professional references prior to first assignment
    • Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, OIG Search, National Sex Offender Registry, and others within 90 days of start; updated annually or after breaks in service >90 days
    • Employment verification for past seven years; updated annually or after breaks in service >90 days
    • Education verification relevant to clinical work within 90 days of start; official transcripts required if verification fails
    • Signed assignment agreement and confirmation of assignment on agency letterhead
  • Testing and Competency:

    • Ascension Cerner Test-Out (Cerner test results and training checklist with signed attestation)
    • Ascension Specialty Exam (minimum 80% passing score; updated every 3 years)
    • Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission, NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80% passing score; updated every 3 years)
    • Ascension EKG Exam (minimum 80% passing score; updated every 3 years)
    • Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical specialty skills; completed within one year of start and updated annually)
  • Health and Safety:

    • Color vision test, completed prior to start and updated every 3 years
    • Health statement or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
    • 2-Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) testing with required follow-ups and annual TB questionnaire
    • MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive titer; no declinations accepted
    • Varicella: Documented proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider; no declinations accepted
    • Tdap: Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted
    • Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination
    • Influenza vaccine: Optional; if declined during flu season, mask wearing required
    • Fit test for respiratory protection, preferred prior to start; updated annually
    • 12-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter; retesting required after breaks in service >90 days
  • Additional Onboarding:

    • Badge photo (forward-facing headshot with white or blue background; no alterations)
    • Completion of onboarding education attestation and nursing contract worker onboarding onsite
    • Completion of pre-hire modules including Nova StatStrip
    • CPI/MOAB High Risk on-site portion completed at orientation (optional)

Additional Information

  • Optional unit-specific checklist may be required by unit leader within one week of start.
  • Driver’s license or state ID must be current, show front and back, and address must comply with compact license rules if applicable.

This position offers a structured long-term assignment in an emergency room setting with comprehensive onboarding and credentialing requirements to ensure clinical competency and compliance.
