Operating Room Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
Seeking experienced circulator RNs with skills in multiple specialties including Orthopedics (Trauma, Joints, Sports Medicine, Shoulders) and Robotic Surgery (DaVinci).
Shift Details:
- Weekdays: Prefer 12-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM (3 shifts/week, total 36 hours)
- Call Requirement: Up to 10 calls per contract, typically fewer; call hours after 7:00 PM to 6:30 AM and weekends
- Weekend Shifts: Call only, 24-hour coverage on Saturday or Sunday
- Float Requirement: May float to 2nd floor Outpatient ORs
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience, with OR experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Orthopedic Trauma experience
Background and Credentialing Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA) required
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- License verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification for RN license
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
Certifications and Competencies
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA provider or instructor level only
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA provider or instructor level preferred
- NIH Stroke Certification - must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam - required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam - required prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exams may be required
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or TB questionnaire in lieu of annual testing
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12) required
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) - 2 vaccines or positive titer required; boosters if low titer
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer required; medical exemptions reviewed
- Hepatitis B - titer or 3-vaccine series or signed declination acceptable
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); decliners must wear mask
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Additional Facility Requirements
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policies
- Annual completion of Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting training
- Annual review and acknowledgment of ethics and compliance policies
- Fit mask testing required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting with contracts on or after 7/13/2026; onsite fit testing available if needed
- Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leader
Summary
This travel RN role in the Operating Room requires strong circulating skills with experience in orthopedic and robotic surgeries. The position offers weekday day shifts with call responsibilities and occasional weekend call shifts.
