Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
Location: El Paso, Texas
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Overview
- Pediatric unit with 19 beds total: 10 PICU beds and 9 Pediatric beds
- Staff: 27 total (Day shift: 1 Charge Nurse + 3-4 Nurses; Night shift: 1 Charge Nurse + 3-4 Nurses)
- Patient Ratios:
- PICU: 1 nurse to 2 patients
- Intermediate Care (IMC): 1:3 (or 1:4 with Patient Care Technician)
- Pediatrics: 1:5 (or 1:6 with Patient Care Technician)
- Equipment includes Hillrom beds, GC monitors, ICU Medial Plum 360 pumps, and Medfusion syringe pumps
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system: Meditech
- No call requirements
- Weekend shifts: 4 per month (AM shifts cover Saturday and Sunday; PM shifts cover Friday and Saturday)
Job Description
- Provide nursing care in a pediatric intensive care setting
- Care for a wide range of patients from post-surgical appendicitis to critically ill patients with septic shock requiring vasoactive drips and mechanical ventilation
- Typical procedures performed:
- Lumbar punctures
- Intubations
- Chest tube placements
- Conscious sedation
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of recent Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience
- Experience working with pediatric patients and pediatrics in general
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Life Support (ALS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- De-escalation skills
- Ability to adapt to various situations and work effectively as a team member
- Open to constructive feedback and professional growth
