Description

Registered Nurse - Emergency Department (ED)

Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Provide professional nursing care to a group of patients in the Emergency Department, utilizing nursing processes, current trends, technology, and resources. Responsible for patient assessment, developing and implementing care plans, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring patient and staff safety.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform initial patient assessments and develop individualized care plans in collaboration with providers, patients, and families.
  • Implement and modify nursing interventions based on continuous patient evaluation.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
  • Ensure patient and staff safety by identifying, reporting, and correcting hazards.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, patients, families, and visitors to promote a healing environment.
  • Provide constructive feedback to peers to support professional development.
  • Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
  • Minimum 3 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Current certifications:
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification preferred.

Work Schedule

  • Night shift, 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week.
  • Shift hours: 1:00 PM to 1:00 AM.
  • Two 13-hour call shifts every 6 weeks; call shifts require onsite presence within one hour.
  • Two-week night rotation required for all travelers.
  • No block scheduling.

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
  • Emphasis on teamwork, communication, and professional development within the ED setting.
