ICU Registered Nurse (RN) - Nebraska, Kearney
Job Details
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Days
- Hours per Day: 12 hours (06:30 - 18:30)
- Hours per Week: 48 hours
- Unit: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
- Beds: 33 total, average daily census 16
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 for adults
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
- Holiday Requirement: Minimum of 2 holidays during contract
- Orientation: 1 shift of unit-specific orientation
- Return to Orientation (RTO): Required within 7 days or less from start; no additional RTO approved
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling available for core staff and travelers; block scheduling generally not approved except possibly weekends only
- Call Back Policy: If called back to work, must arrive within 30 minutes
Patient Population & Care
- Common diagnoses: Trauma, cardiac conditions, overdose/substance abuse, adult sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, respiratory distress
- RNs are required to titrate drips including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
- Respiratory equipment: Nasal cannula to ventilator; RNs troubleshoot but respiratory therapists provide primary care
- Monitors/Telemetry: RNs must read, interpret, and document cardiac monitor strips (GE brand); telemetry tech oversight provided
- Floating: Typically to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or occasionally MedSurg with typical ratios of 1:4 or 1:5
- Nurse Aides and Healthcare Support Techs assist based on census and volume
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Nebraska
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including ICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
