Description
Registered Nurse – Med Surg
Location: Alexandria, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days, 7 AM – 7 PM
Start Date: ASAP
Unit & Patient Population
- Medical-Surgical unit with focus on post-surgical patients, including orthopedics and general surgery
- Neuro populations also cared for on the unit
- EPIC electronic health record experience is a bonus
Job Summary
- Provides independent nursing care in a similar clinical setting
- Manages routine and complex care, including long-range planning
- Delegates and assigns tasks to other care providers as needed
- Meets professional nursing competencies and standards of practice
Responsibilities
- Deliver nursing care using the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation
- Address psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families
- Administer medications and treatments per protocol, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness
- Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided
- Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, families, and caregivers
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
- Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working as a travel nurse
Additional Information
- Nurse-to-patient ratio typically ranges from 5:1 to 6:1 depending on staffing
- Weekend work may be required based on scheduling needs
- Floating to other units is a possibility
- No on-call requirement
- Temp-to-perm opportunity may be available
