Description
Registered Nurse (PCU) - Night Shift
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking experienced Night PCU Registered Nurses for a 35-bed progressive care unit. The unit cares for adult and geriatric patients with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and continuous EEG monitoring needs. This is a fast-paced environment requiring strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills.
Schedule & Work Details
- Shift: Nights (18:30 - 07:00)
- Hours per shift: 12
- Hours per week: 36
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Every third holiday
- No call or standby required
- Floating to medical floors, ICU, or rehab may be required
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-5
- Nurse aide/patient care tech ratio: 1:10 or 2:20
- Charge nurse present on each shift (charge nurse takes assignment)
Orientation
- First week: Onboarding
- 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation
Patient Care & Responsibilities
- RNs are required to titrate drips (e.g., Cardizem, beta blockers, seizure medications)
- Common patient diagnoses: cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, continuous EEG monitoring
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years as an RN
- Minimum 1 year of experience on a PCU or similar unit
- Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Valid driver’s license required (used to verify candidate is within 50-mile radius)
- Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book exam during orientation
Additional Notes
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system within a 50-mile radius
- Return to work (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed
- Successful nurses demonstrate a positive attitude, helpfulness, good communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities
