Description
Hospice RN (Days/Nights) - Montana, Missoula
Employment Details
- Type: Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Schedule: Must be willing to work both day and night shifts (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM), with possible weekends
- Hours: 36 hours per week (0.9 FTE guaranteed)
- Work Setting: Primarily inpatient unit with potential support for in-home hospice visits as needed
Job Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care focused on comfort and symptom management for terminally ill patients
- Administer medications and interventions as ordered by physicians
- Continuously assess patient needs to ensure a dignified, comfortable end-of-life experience
- Supervise and delegate nursing support tasks to CNAs, ensuring safety, compassion, and adherence to care plans
- Monitor CNA documentation for accuracy and completeness; provide mentorship and feedback
- Participate in interdisciplinary team rounds and contribute to care planning, symptom management, and family education
- Provide emotional support and education to families and caregivers navigating end-of-life challenges
- Accurately document nursing assessments, interventions, and communications in compliance with regulatory standards
- Follow infection control procedures to maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license valid in Montana or Compact RN license
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience in hospice, palliative care, critical care, or medical-surgical nursing
- Experience working in a unionized healthcare environment
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
