Description
NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Work primarily in a Level III or IV NICU caring for neonates born at 23-24 weeks gestation.
- Unit has a dedicated Admit Nurse; travelers typically do not admit babies.
- Floating is rare but may be required to other campuses or units such as Pediatrics or Special Care Nursery (SCN). If floating to Pediatrics, care is limited to infants.
- NICU size: 77 beds with an average census of 50.
- No ECMO cases; experience with CPAP/BiPAP, high frequency vents, oscillators, blood/blood products administration, cardioversion/defibrillation, cooling/warming blankets, feeding tubes, PICC/central lines, and syringe pumps is expected.
- Attend high-risk deliveries and neonatal surgeries.
- Block scheduling available (3 or more shifts in a row if preferred).
- Must be open to floating to different campuses within reasonable distance.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington State.
- Minimum of 3 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience, with NICU experience within the last year.
- Current certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Education: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Social Security Card (as applicable).
- Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; must be updated annually.
- Education verification and transcript/diploma (especially if internationally educated).
- NURSYS license verification for RNs.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation.
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years or declination accepted.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season.
- COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted with adherence to masking policies.
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use.
- WA State Patrol Search (WATCH) and other state-specific background checks as required by law.
- References: Minimum of 2 references covering at least 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty within the last 3 years.
- Employment application covering at least the last 5 years of employment.
- Skills checklist updated annually as applicable.
Additional Notes
- Previous permanent employees of any affiliated facility must have a minimum 3-month separation before qualifying for a travel position.
- Badge photo is not required for this specific facility.
- Candidates must complete annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via the designated learning management system.
- Floating policy acknowledgment is required.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity NICU environment with advanced neonatal care technologies and requires a highly skilled and flexible RN with NICU experience.
