OR Tech / Surgical Tech - Travel/Contract

Location: Weston, Florida
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Specialty: Surgical Services
  • Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Teaching hospital
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts of 12 hours (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week for 3x12 shifts
  • Floating: Required within scope to meet facility needs, including sister facilities
  • Locals accepted at same rate
  • Block scheduling not accommodated

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of Surgical Technologist experience
  • Surgical Technologist experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

Licensure & Certifications

  • Government-issued photo ID required on person during hours of service
  • BLS certification (AHA or American Red Cross provider card or RQI acceptable)
  • National certification verification required within 30 days of start
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) not specifically required for this role
  • Other certifications (e.g., PALS, NRP, Chemo, EFM) not applicable unless specified by unit
  • State license verification and primary source verification required within 30 days of start (as applicable)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint clearance required prior to start (Livescan electronic fingerprinting mandatory)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen required within 1 year of start (no medical marijuana accepted)
  • Smoke-free facility: all travelers must be nicotine-free; negative nicotine (cotinine) drug screen required
  • Physical exam within 6 months of start required
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines, titer, or history of chickenpox)
  • Seasonal influenza vaccination required during flu season (medical/religious exemptions allowed)
  • COVID-19 vaccination series or approved medical/religious exemption required

Onboarding & Training

  • Time-sensitive online training modules must be completed by due date prior to start (access provided after contract signing)
  • Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; video content cannot be skipped
  • HIPAA training and orientation safety manual acknowledgment required
  • Pass/Fail testing (EKG/Medication) not required for this role (only for RN/LPN)
  • Competency exams required as applicable to specialty

Additional Requirements

  • All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront with application; late requests likely denied
  • References: 2 professional references within 2 years required for travel positions
  • Employment application and skills checklist must be completed and updated annually
  • Facility uses EPIC for charting
  • Scrub color: Ceil Blue
