Description

Registered Nurse - Med/Telemetry

Location: Lufkin, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week


Unit Information

  • 24-bed unit
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 6:1
  • Patient types: Congestive heart failure (CHF), diabetes, pneumonia (PNA), chronic kidney disease (CKD), medical/surgical telemetry patients
  • Respiratory equipment used: CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen therapy
  • Telemetry monitor technicians monitor patients, but RNs must be able to read cardiac strips
  • Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) present with a ratio of 1:12
  • Charge Nurses, House Supervisors, and Nurse Educators available on unit
  • Unit orientation specific to medical/surgical telemetry completed in Kurth tower
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs

Scheduling & Requirements

  • Scheduling managed by unit manager; block scheduling not guaranteed
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holiday shifts required
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Floating required to all medical/surgical units

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license
  • BLS certification
  • Strong communication and time management skills
  • Ability to read telemetry strips

Additional Notes

  • Transitioned to a virtual integrated care nursing model (VIC)
  • Must work the schedule assigned by management
