Registered Nurse (L&D) - Henderson, Nevada

Position Details

  • Specialty: Labor & Delivery (L&D)
  • Location: Henderson, Nevada
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Nights
  • Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
  • Unit Size: 17 L&D beds, including 2 OR suites for C-sections, 4 triage beds, and 16 postpartum beds
  • Birth Volume: Approximately 250 births per month
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • 2:1 for normal laboring moms
    • 1:1 for high-risk labors
    • 4:1 couplet care
    • 2:1 to 4:1 antepartum depending on acuity

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Required Skills & Experience

  • Confident and independent in performing vaginal exams and internal monitor placement
  • Experience managing high-risk laboring/delivery and antepartum patients in a Level 3 high-risk facility
  • Ability to circulate and recover C-section patients
  • Flexibility to float to Mother-Baby unit and other units as needed
  • Competent in titrating drips such as Magnesium Sulfate, Pitocin, Insulin, and Heparin

Clinical Environment & Support

  • 24/7 in-house OB/Neonatologist and anesthesia coverage
  • Respiratory therapy equipment available; patients requiring ventilation are transferred to ICU
  • No Telemetry/Monitor Techs on unit; RNs must read fetal monitor strips independently (Cerner EFM system)
  • Certified Surgical Techs and Secretaries provide ancillary support

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Scheduling system allows self-scheduling requests, balanced by a scheduling committee
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend
  • Holiday coverage: as needed
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Floating required to postpartum unit as needed
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs; light blue OR scrubs available for nurse use
  • Orientation: 3 days unit-specific orientation for travelers

Additional Notes

  • Charge nurse takes assignments only when unit is at maximum capacity and no additional help is available
