Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – 4N Ortho-Neuro
Location: Parkersburg, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Unit: 4N Ortho-Neuro (33 beds, all private rooms)
- Patient types: Elective surgeries (hips, knees, shoulders), fractures from falls, back & neck neuro-surgeries, general MedSurg
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6
- Common equipment: PCA pumps, IV fluids (no heparin or other drips)
- RNs do not titrate drips
- Remote telemetry monitored by another floor; RNs do not read strips
- Respiratory support available (CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow) managed by RTs
Schedule & Work Environment
- Shifts: 12-hour shifts (07:00–19:30 or 19:00–07:30) with a 30-minute lunch break
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun for nights; Sat/Sun for days)
- Holiday shifts may be required based on unit needs
- Floating: Required to float first to MedSurg units; may float to Telemetry with appropriate patient assignments
- Call/standby: Possible depending on contract and census
- Dress code: Royal blue scrubs; scrub jackets allowed only if royal blue, no hoodies or sweatshirts
Orientation & Training
- 1 day EPIC electronic health record orientation
- 1 day floor orientation with preceptor
- 3rd day working independently
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license in West Virginia or compact license
- BLS (AHA) certification
- Experience with orthopedic patients and PCA pumps required
- Valid, unexpired driver’s license required for submission
Additional Information
- Patient Care Technicians assist with vitals, fingerstick blood sugars, activities of daily living, and Foley catheter removal
- Charge nurse coverage 24/7; night charge nurse always takes a full patient assignment
- Location offers proximity to ski resorts and outdoor activities
