Job Opportunity: Risk Manager
Location
- Parkersburg, West Virginia
Unit Details
- Unit: Advanced Care Unit (Stepdown)
- Beds: 30 private rooms
- Patient Types: Stroke, Trauma, Vascular cases including femoral pops, carotids, DKA, amputations, post-cath with TR bands and femoral access
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Patient Care Technicians: 3 per shift, ratio 1:10
- Respiratory Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow (ventilator patients are stable and goal is to maintain stability)
- Telemetry: Monitor techs present, but RNs must read, verify, and sign off on strips
Schedule
- Shifts: 0700-1930 (Days), 1900-0730 (Nights)
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling and block scheduling allowed if unit needs are met; block scheduling not guaranteed
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW); Night weekends are Fri/Sat/Sun, Day weekends are Sat/Sun
- Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation for permanent staff; travelers may be expected to work weekends if needed
- Call/Standby: Very rare
Responsibilities & Skills
- Must have stepdown acuity experience with stroke, trauma, and vascular patient types
- Ability to read cardiac strips is required; RNs must read, verify, and sign off on telemetry strips
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Cardizem (per physician orders), Insulin, and Heparin
- Floating: Travelers float first; may float down to MedSurg/Telemetry or up to ICU for ACU-status patients; no floating to CVICU but may float to CV Stepdown
Required Certifications & Licenses
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Must have an unexpired driver’s license included with application
Orientation
- Day 1: HR, clinical educator, and shadow on unit
- Day 2: Shadow on unit
- Day 3: Independent on unit
- Orientation includes 12-hour day shifts and scheduled weekends
Dress Code
- Royal blue scrubs
- Scrub jackets allowed only if actual scrub jackets (no hoodies or sweatshirts)
Note: This position requires experience in stepdown/advanced care unit nursing with specific skills in stroke, trauma, and vascular patient care. Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
