Registered Nurse (Med Surg / Ortho) - Nebraska
Location

Job Details
- Specialty: Medical-Surgical with Orthopedic experience

- Contract length: 13 weeks
- Unit type: Med Surg / Ortho
- Beds on unit: 22 (average daily census of 6)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6
- Patient types: Total knee, hip, ankle, shoulder replacements; spine (back and neck) cases
- Charge nurse present on each shift and takes assignment
- Nurse aides/patient care techs present with ratio 1:13
- Telemetry techs read and interpret monitors; RNs not required to read strips
- Common drips: pain medications, antibiotics, blood (RNs not required to titrate drips)
- Orientation: 1 day unit/department specific
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling with cyclic rotation; no blocked scheduling except weekends only
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: Rotate with permanent staff
- Floating: May float to MedSurg, rehab, or PCU with MedSurg acuity
- On-call callback time: 30 minutes to arrive if called back in
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license appropriate for Nebraska
- BLS Certification
- Valid driver’s license required at time of submission (used to verify candidate is outside 50-mile radius)
- Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book skills exam during orientation (failure results in contract termination)
- No artificial nails allowed in patient care areas (refusal to remove leads to contract termination)
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system within 50 miles
Additional Information
- Radius rule: Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
- Return to office (RTO) required within 7 days or less from contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed
- Attributes for success: Team-oriented, flexible, willing to learn, takes ownership, helps teammates
- Phlebotomy available 24/7 on site
