Description
Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Edmonds, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Work in a standard community hospital surgical setting with approximately 40% inpatient and 60% ambulatory/outpatient cases.
- Circulate in ENT, General Surgery, Total Joints, Neuro/Spine, OB/GYN, Ortho, Plastics, Post-op, and Pre-op.
- Scrub in Vascular surgeries.
- No CVOR, neuro, or robotics experience required.
- Preference for RNs proficient in scrubbing, especially with Ortho and Spine experience.
- Must have experience in Ortho and Spine specialties.
- Patient populations include adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
Schedule
- 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts (Day shift: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM).
- Call required approximately 48-56 hours per 6-week schedule (typically 6-7 eight-hour call shifts per 6 weeks).
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington.
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year.
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
- Education: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Clinical experience in Orthopedics, Vascular Surgery, ENT Surgery, and OB/GYN.
Important Notes
- Previous permanent staff at this facility are not eligible to work as travelers in OR units or OR specialties.
- First-time travelers are allowed.
- Must be able to float to other nearby facilities within a reasonable distance if required.
- References: Minimum of 2 references covering at least 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years.
- Employment application must include at least the last 5 years of employment with month/year format for dates.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID and Social Security Card (as applicable).
- Background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; must be updated annually.
- Education verification required for nursing degree; international education requires diploma/transcript or CGFNS/CES report.
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating fitness to work.
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years (declination accepted).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required).
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted).
- COVID-19 vaccination record preferred; declinations not required but unvaccinated must follow infection prevention protocols.
- Respirator clearance required annually for travel assignments.
- Fit mask testing required for travel assignments, updated annually.
Training and Competency
- Must complete annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules as assigned.
- Epic system training required for OR staff, to be completed within one week of orientation.
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams as applicable.
- Skills checklist for applicable units, updated annually.
Additional Requirements
- WA Multi-State Licensed Nurses must complete demographic attestation prior to starting assignment.
- Photo for badge with neutral background required prior to start.
- Float policy acknowledgment required.
