Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Oncology
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:15 AM – 6:45 PM)
- Average Daily Census: 24 patients (24 rooms/beds)
- Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center, Magnet recognized
- Charting System: Cerner
- Parking: Permit required, no cost
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of Registered Nurse experience
- Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association
- Body fluid handling post chemotherapy
- Continuous infusion of chemotherapy
- IV push administration of chemotherapy
- Management and disposal of cytotoxic spills
- Monitoring of chemotherapy
- Oral administration of chemotherapy
- Recognition and communication of abnormal lab values related to chemotherapy
- Accessing ports for medication administration
- Administration of coagulation factors
- Administration of antifungals
Required Certifications
- Chemotherapy certification (mandatory)
- PALS if applicable
- State RN license primary source verification
- NURSYS verification required
Health and Background Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by appropriate healthcare provider, confirming good health and ability to perform job functions
- Fit mask test required (3M 1860 small/regular, 1870, or 1870+ masks acceptable)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity (MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella) or signed declinations
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
- Background checks including:
- Criminal history, sex offender registry, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG within 30 days of start
- Illinois-specific searches (Department of Corrections, Most Wanted, Murderer and Violent Offender Against Youth Registry) within 30 days of start
- Fingerprinting and Illinois Healthcare Worker Registry results required for clinical candidates without an active IL license; prints must be taken in Illinois at least 3 business days prior to start
Documentation and Compliance
- Valid US Driver’s License or State ID copy required
- Education verification (degree/transcript) required
- Competency exam required for clinical candidates
- Badge photo required within one week of contract signing (color photo, plain background)
- Code of Conduct acknowledgment required within 7 days of contract signing
- Completion of computer-based learning modules before or on first day of orientation
- Parking permit form to be completed if applicable
Additional Notes
- Guaranteed hours subject to client call-offs up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay
- Schedule flexibility: block schedule requests can be discussed with manager
- Return to office (RTO) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days
- Scrub color: any solid color allowed
