Description
Registered Nurse – Med Surg/Telemetry (Travel/Contract)
Location: Germantown, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in Med Surg, overflow unit, post-surgical, and observation areas
- Patient ratio approximately 1:6 or 1:7
- Transitioning to team nursing model; LPNs are being hired to assist with this transition
- On-call and weekend shifts required as needed
- Weekend block scheduling generally not accommodated, but weekend blocks may be considered
- Local candidates within 100-mile radius are not accepted
- Start date: ASAP
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
- Minimum 2 years of recent Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- At least 1 year of total travel nursing experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Required Certifications & Competencies
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA or ARC only
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA or ARC only
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) – Required for all RNs (annual renewal)
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency must be current within 1 year and updated annually
- Other certifications (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM) are not required for this Med Surg/Telemetry role
Background and Screening Requirements
- Background check within 60 days of start including statewide, county, federal, and education verification
- Sex offender search and Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry search (TN only) required
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated annually
- Two recent professional references required
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (no pending or instant tests accepted)
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit test for 3M N-95 masks (models 1860 and 1870+) within 1 year, must pass without limitations
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year; if positive, clear chest x-ray within 2 years plus annual TB questionnaire
- Immunizations required with proof of vaccination or positive antibody titers for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or positive titer or signed declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30); exemptions require mask-wearing in patient areas and may delay start date
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge must meet strict guidelines (passport-style, no hats, no glasses glare, recent within 6 months)
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; no prints or embroidered scrubs allowed
- Confidentiality acknowledgment must be signed prior to start
- Submission packet includes application, references, skills checklist, state license verification, and certification information
- Onsite fit test and EPIC questionnaire must be completed as required
Additional Notes
- Candidates must submit Return to Office (RTO) restrictions at time of application; late submissions will not be accepted
- Candidates can only be submitted to one job ID at a time per facility policy
- No local candidates accepted; must be willing to travel
- This position is not open to first-time travel nurses
