Registered Nurse (Neuro MedSurg) - Morgantown, West Virginia
Position Details
- Specialty: Neuro MedSurg (6 West Unit)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Days
- Hours per Day: 12
- Hours per Week: 36
- Unit Beds: 20 beds (14 on the floor)
- Patient Ratios: 1:5-6 for floor patients
- Nurse Aide Support: Yes, 3 per shift (ratios 1:7-10)
- Weekend Requirement: Weekend day shifts include Friday, Saturday, Sunday; weekend night shifts include Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday; weekday nights require every other weekend or 3 weekend shifts per schedule
- Holiday Requirement: Travelers are expected to participate in holiday rotations
- Floating: Possible float to nearby units (7E, 7W, 7NE, 10E) as first priority, then hospital-wide if needed
- Dress Code: Any combination of white and royal blue scrubs
- Orientation: 1 shift on the unit (7:00 am - 7:30 pm) on weekends (Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday)
Patient Population and Care
- Common diagnoses include Neurosciences, Deep Brain Stimulators (DBS), Stroke, Seizures, Surgical/Post-Op Spines, and other Neurological Disorders
- Unit includes telemetry monitoring; RNs do not read strips but verify monitor tech readings in the electronic health record system
- Respiratory Therapy (RT) available 24/7; floor ventilators are managed by RT and physicians; RN vent experience not required
- Drip titration is generally physician-ordered; some protocols may allow RN titration with education
Required Certifications and Skills
- Required: BLS (AHA), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification (must have NIHSS certification at time of application)
- Preferred: ACLS certification
- Recent experience with EPIC electronic health record system is required
- Strong neuro nursing experience with proficiency in G-tube care
Additional Notes
- Any background hits must be disclosed at time of submission
- Charge nurse coverage is available 24/7
- Travelers should be flexible with scheduling; 3 consecutive shifts may be allowed but not guaranteed
