Description
Registered Nurse - Step Down
Location: Waco, Texas
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
Job Description / Clinical Experience Required
- Minimum 2 years of RN Step Down experience required (highest stated requirement).
- Experience with:
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- BiPAP
- Stable glucose tolerance testing (GTT) management
- Post-operative day 1 care for CABG, AVR, MVR
- Cardiovascular and vascular cases including AAA repair, lobectomy, carotid endarterectomy (CEA)
- Cardiac events: NSTEMI, STEMI, Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS)
- Pacemaker management
- Sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB), post diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
- Respiratory failure and tracheostomy care
Required Qualifications
Licensure & Certifications
- Valid, unrestricted RN license in Texas.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Testing & Competency
- Ascension Specialty Exam.
- Ascension EKG Exam.
- Ascension Epic electronic health record test-out.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of Step Down nursing experience.
- Step Down experience within the last year.
- Experience in vascular surgery.
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
- Optional items include unit-specific checklist and post-assignment hiring manager evaluation.
- All certifications and verifications must be current and compliant with stated timelines.
- Candidate must demonstrate competency and pass required exams with limited attempts allowed.
This position is ideal for experienced Step Down RNs comfortable with complex cardiovascular and respiratory patient care in a telemetry setting during overnight shifts.
