Description

Registered Nurse (RN) – CVU 5E Unit

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 1830-0700)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit: Combined Cardio/General ICU, PCU, MedSurg (HVI Unit)
Beds: 18


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care for patients requiring intermediate care and downgraded CVICU patients.
  • Patient population includes thoracic program, electrophysiology, cath lab, structural heart, CVAs, CHF, A fib RVR, and other cardiac/vascular diagnoses.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 generally, 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours.
  • RNs are required to titrate drips such as amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, diltiazem, and other blood pressure management medications.
  • RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips; remote telemetry techs are present.
  • Unit supports BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula respiratory equipment; RNs troubleshoot but do not manage respiratory devices.
  • Hospitalist and intensivist coverage 24/7; cardiology on call after hours.
  • Respiratory therapists available 24/7.
  • Charge nurse present on each shift, rarely takes patient assignments.
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs support the unit at a ratio of 1:18.
  • Floating to same or lower acuity units required.
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs.
  • Orientation tailored to experience, typically 1-2 shifts on unit.
  • Weekend work required every other weekend.
  • Scheduling managed by unit manager; no block or self-scheduling.
  • No call or standby requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license valid in Nebraska.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience caring for this patient population (cardiac/vascular intermediate care or CVICU).
  • Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
  • Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book skills exam during orientation.
  • Valid driver’s license required at time of submission.
  • Must comply with facility’s fingernail policy: artificial nails prohibited.
  • Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility and may not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any affiliated facilities.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.

Additional Information

  • Contract requires 48-hour shifts.
  • Return to orientation (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approved.
  • Floating to other units of same or lower acuity expected.
  • This is an ASAP need.

This position is ideal for RNs with cardiac ICU or progressive care experience seeking a 13-week travel assignment on a combined cardiac/ICU/PCU unit with a focus on telemetry and advanced cardiac care.
