Description
Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a high-risk, high-volume Labor & Delivery (L&D) unit with approximately 500-600 deliveries per month.
- Float required to Postpartum/Antepartum and possibly to sister facilities providing Mother/Baby care.
- Patient population includes midwifery clients, private OBs, adult recovery services (substance recovery), and community care clinics.
- Use of EPIC electronic medical records and electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) is mandatory.
- Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines.
- Responsibilities include functioning as a Baby Nurse during delivery and providing newborn care until transfer to postpartum.
- Must be able to circulate in the OR (4 ORs available).
- Newborn care duties include eye care, Vitamin K injections, thigh assessments, and newborn assessments.
- Medications commonly administered include Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate.
- Schedule: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM), working every other weekend and holidays as needed.
- Schedule posted every 6 weeks and adjusted to meet unit needs.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Washington.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 3 years of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year required.
- Experience working with high-risk patients.
- Certifications required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program).
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) or NCC-EFM certification.
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale).
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Must have a background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years.
- Background checks include SSN trace, death master index, nationwide and county checks, sex offender registry, education verification, and others as applicable.
- No open/active background hits or multiple DUI charges allowed.
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or declinations accepted:
- TDAP (within 10 years)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) or positive titers
- Varicella or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season or declination
- COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted with adherence to masking policies
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually.
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use.
- Fit mask testing required for travel candidates, updated annually.
- Drug Testing:
- 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant tests acceptable).
- Other:
- Must complete annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp).
- Must complete WA Multi-State Licensed Nurses Demographic Attestation if working with an out-of-state compact license in Washington.
- Float policy acknowledgment required.
Additional Information
- Passport-style badge photo with neutral background is not required for this facility.
- Pre-approved time off is considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Candidates must be prepared to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment with a focus on high-risk obstetrics and newborn care.
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs with strong high-risk L&D skills who are comfortable working night shifts in a busy hospital setting.
