Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg 5S Float Position

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Float position covering Orthopedic units with MedSurg/Telemetry experience preferred.
• Must have low-level Orthopedic experience.
• Work primarily 12-hour night shifts (7p - 7a), 36 hours per week.
• Weekend schedule: every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday).
• Holiday rotation with permanent staff.
• Patient ratios generally 1:5-6, occasionally up to 7 depending on acuity.
• Units staffed with charge nurses and CNAs.
• Monitor techs available, but RNs must interpret telemetry strips.
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7 for CPAP/BiPAP and vents; RNs perform aerosols and EKGs for non-vented patients.
• IV team available house-wide until 10 pm weekdays and 3:30 pm weekends.
• In-house pharmacy operates 24/7 with Accudose system.
• Floor-specific orientation includes 1-2 shifts with a preceptor.
• Common patient diagnoses: CHF, cardiac catheterization, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, Orthopedics, and Oncology (chemo administered by permanent staff).
• Floating to Critical Care involves med/surg or stepdown patients.
• Manager is traveler-friendly and may accommodate requests to work primarily on a specific unit with block scheduling.
• No false nails allowed.

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license in West Virginia or a compact state license.
• BLS certification required.
• Experience with EPIC electronic medical records system required.
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips.
• Valid driver’s license (unexpired) required for submission.

Additional Information

• Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule for candidate submissions.

Summary

This is a 13-week travel RN assignment in a hospital setting requiring MedSurg and Telemetry experience with some Orthopedic exposure. The role involves 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend and holiday rotation. Strong telemetry skills and EPIC EMR experience are essential. The environment is supportive of travelers with opportunities for preferred unit assignments.
