Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg/Oncology 6S Unit

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM), 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday)
Holiday Requirement: Work holidays as part of the permanent staff rotation schedule

Unit Overview

• 36-bed MedSurg/Oncology/Post-Op unit with telemetry monitoring
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6
• Unit includes general MedSurg patients, post-op cases (lap chole, lap appy), oncology patients with complications (neutropenic precautions, pneumonia, infections), and occasional psych patients requiring 1:1 sitter
• Frequent use of chest tubes and PleurX chest tubes for malignant patients discharged home
• Phillips telemetry monitors with central monitor tech support; RNs must read and interpret cardiac strips

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) or ONCC Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification is a plus
• Experience with chemotherapy administration and oncology patient care preferred
• Experience with chest tube management highly desirable
• Ability to titrate Heparin drips (no cardiac drips titrated)
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips

Staffing and Support

• Charge nurse available 24/7; day shift charge nurse does not take patient assignments, night shift charge nurse does
• 3 CNAs on day shift and 3 CNAs on night shift support nursing staff
• Respiratory therapy available for CPAP and BiPAP management; RNs are not responsible for managing respiratory equipment

Scheduling and Work Environment

• 12-hour day shifts, 7 AM to 7 PM
• Weekend shifts scheduled every other weekend
• Holiday shifts integrated into permanent staff rotation
• Dress code: Royal blue scrubs for RNs
• No false nails allowed

Additional Requirements

• Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule for candidate submissions
• Submission must include a copy of an unexpired driver’s license

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
• Higher years of specialty experience not specified beyond standard RN requirements for MedSurg/Oncology
