Description

Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg/Telemetry Float

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Assignment Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts, primarily 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (day shift) and nights available
Hours: Typically 36 to 48 hours per week, with every other weekend required
Patient Ratios:

  • MedSurg/Telemetry: 1:5-6 (depending on acuity)
  • PCU: 1:4
  • PCA (Patient Care Assistant) support available (usually 1 PCA per 12 patients)

Unit and Patient Population

  • Float between 7 telemetry units, most frequently assigned to 6N and 7N (29 beds)
  • Patient types include: CHF, cardiac cath/post-cath care, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, orthopedic, oncology (chemo administered by oncology RNs), post-op lung surgeries, respiratory failure, pacemakers, post PCI
  • Occasional float to Critical Care only if RN has critical care experience
  • Telemetry patients are basic level; no arterial lines or sheath pulls required
  • Telemetry monitors: Phillips brand; RNs must read and interpret strips

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Must be able to titrate drips including cardiac gtts (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Heparin, Nitro up to 50 mcg, Lasix, Ativan)
  • Experience with drip titration is mandatory
  • Ability to work with telemetry patients and interpret cardiac rhythms
  • No false nails allowed

Experience

  • Prior critical care experience required only if floating to Critical Care
  • No explicit requirement for prior travel experience mentioned

Work Environment and Scheduling

  • Charge nurse available 24/7; day shift charge nurse does not take patient assignments, night shift charge nurse does
  • RT manages CPAP and BiPAP; nurses do not manage respiratory equipment directly
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend (both day and night shifts)
  • Holiday shifts included in rotation with permanent staff
  • Dress code: Royal Blue scrubs for RNs
  • Use of Kronos system for clocking in/out
