    Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST)

    Location: San Francisco, California
    Employment Type: Travel/Contract
    Contract Length: 13 weeks
    Shift: Evening (5x8 hours), 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (includes weekends in rotation)
    Hours per Week: 40 hours


    Job Description

    • Assist in preparing for and during surgery by performing routine and delegated duties according to department and hospital standards to ensure quality patient care.
    • Strong experience required in Neuro, Spine, and Orthopedic surgical services.
    • Experience with Neuro, Spine, Ortho, and DaVinci surgical systems is required.
    • On-call duties required.
    • Occasional float to other campuses may be required.

    Required Qualifications

    • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or NBSTSA certification.
    • Minimum 2 years of Certified Surgical Technologist experience, including experience within the last year.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
    • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

    Background and Compliance Requirements

    • 7-year background check required within 6 months of start, including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC Sanctions List, and Medi-Cal Suspended and Ineligible Provider List checks required as applicable.
    • Education verification required unless highest education is high school.
    • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law).
    • TB screening questionnaire required within 90 days of start and annually thereafter.
    • Physical exam required within 1 year of start.
    • Fit mask test required within 1 year of start and annually thereafter.
    • Immunizations and titers required: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, and seasonal flu vaccination during flu season.
    • Respiratory safety clearance required prior to start and annually.
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days of start; annual renewal required.
    • Color blindness exam required if applicable (in-person only).
    • References: 2 professional references within 3 years required for clinical positions.
    • Full 7 years of work history required on application with no gaps; employment verification required for up to 7 years.

    Certifications & Competencies

    • BLS (AHA or ARC).
    • ACLS, PALS, NRP, CCRN, TNCC, EFM, CPI, NIH Stroke Certification, and other certifications as applicable (verify by position).
    • Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be renewed annually.
    • Medication and pharmacology competency exams as applicable.
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required for some units.
    • ICU & MS/Telemetry RNs at certain locations required to take EKG exam onsite after start.

    Facility Specific Requirements

    • Candidate must review and sign facility policies and job description prior to start, including standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, overpayment refund policy, and general regulatory orientation.
    • Candidates requesting religious exemptions for facial hair or vaccines must complete specific exemption forms and obtain approval.
    • Dress code policy must be reviewed prior to start.
    • Photo for badge required for per diem employees.
    • Personal or auto insurance required only for driving positions.

    Additional Notes

    • Candidates with positive TB history must provide a negative chest x-ray within 1 year of start.
    • Candidates with failed fit tests due to facial hair must shave and retest; other failures require PAPR training.
    • Candidates may start assignment while completing Hepatitis B vaccination series but must finish or sign declination.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season unless 100% remote.
    • Religious and medical exemptions for immunizations may be considered but declinations are not accepted.
    • Attestations for employment gaps over 30 days require approval; gaps over 1 year without verification will result in contract cancellation.

    This position is ideal for experienced Certified Surgical Technologists with strong Neuro, Spine, and Orthopedic surgical skills seeking a travel contract in a reputable California healthcare setting.
