Job Opportunity: Step Down Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Vero Beach, Florida
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Step Down Unit
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Teaching Hospital
- Total Staffed Beds: 332
- Charting System: EPIC (must have experience with EPIC version 3 or 4)
- Scrub Color: White
- Parking: Free in any unrestricted space
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of Stepdown experience, including experience within the last year
- ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Familiarity with cardiac drips and time-sensitive clinical modules
- Must be willing to float within scope to multiple nearby hospitals (within 20 miles)
- First-time travel nurses accepted
- Locals accepted at same rate
- Pending license accepted
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross – must have at time of submission
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – must have at time of submission
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) – must obtain prior to start
Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Florida required
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during hours of service
- 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint clearance required prior to start (Livescan electronic fingerprinting accepted nationwide)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 1 year of start (no Florida Medical Marijuana card accepted)
- Physical exam within 6 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines, titer, or history of chickenpox)
- Seasonal influenza vaccination required during flu season (medical/religious exemptions allowed)
- COVID-19 vaccination series or approved medical/religious exemption required
Additional Requirements
- Must be nicotine-free (smoke-free facility) with negative nicotine (cotinine) test
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront with application
- Pass/Fail testing on EKG and Pharmacology administered during orientation (2 attempts allowed per test)
- Completion of online onboarding modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone)
- 2 professional references required within 2 years of start date
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing required

- Orientation typically scheduled 3-4 weeks out from contract start
- Candidates must prioritize completion of time-sensitive training modules once confirmed
