Description

Registered Nurse – Stepdown / Immediate Care Unit (Travel/Contract)

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), weekdays and some weekends
Patient Ratio: Typically 1:4, may flex to 1:5 in emergencies
Unit Acuity: Mix of Stepdown, Progressive Care, and Telemetry patients; acuity varies


Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in West Virginia
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Stepdown nursing experience, with Stepdown experience within the last year
  • Experience in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • Skills: Telemetry monitoring

Job Details

  • Start date: ASAP
  • Holiday time-off requests limited to no more than 2 of the 4 major holidays
  • Weekend block schedules considered only for Fri-Sun or Sat-Mon
  • Scrubs: Burgundy and/or white (not provided)
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Cerner

Documentation & Compliance Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during work hours
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification, and drug screening (10-panel within 30 days of start, updated annually)
  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD within 1 year or equivalent)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years (preferred)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers or vaccinations within 2 years or signed declination
    • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 13 – Apr 1)
    • COVID vaccine or declination required
  • Stroke education: 8 CEU hours annually, including NIH Stroke Certification
  • Competency exams and color blindness testing as applicable
  • Facility-specific documents including badge photo, background drug screen consent, confidentiality agreement, parking pass, and completion of Care Learning Modules prior to start
  • Cerner EMR training modules must be completed before orientation
  • ReadySet (RS) health assessment surveys must be completed by facility deadlines

Submission Packet Requirements

  • Candidate profile including work history
  • Specialty-specific skills checklist (updated annually)
  • Minimum 2 clinical or charge nurse references from the past 2 years
  • RN license verification (recently pulled within 2 days of submission)
  • Copies of all required certifications (no pending certifications allowed)

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must comply with all facility and agency requirements prior to start
  • Solo call may be limited until certain facility-specific licenses or applications are processed (applicable for Cath Lab RNs, if relevant)
  • This position involves caring for patients with varying acuity levels, including telemetry monitoring and progressive care needs
