Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room
Location
- City: Lufkin, Texas
- Setting: Rural hospital
Position Details
- Specialty: Emergency Room (ER)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Evenings
- Hours: 12 hours per day, approximately 36 hours per week
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling for day and night shifts (9-9, 11-11, 1-1, 3-3)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- Call/Standby: None
- Floating: Required to float to units for which qualified
- Orientation: Unit-specific orientation provided
Unit Information
- ER Beds: 24 total, with 3 trauma bays
- Fast Track: Yes
- Separate Triage Area: Yes, travelers may occasionally perform triage
- Holding Area: No separate holding area; holds are intermixed within the ER and managed by ER nurses
- Psych/Seclusion Rooms: None
- In-house Security: Yes
- Patient Volume: 80-90 patients per day
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Common Diagnoses: Trauma, Stroke, Sepsis, Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Cardiac conditions
- Physicians/Mid-Levels: Both present
- Support Staff: Charge nurse, house supervisor, nurse aides, paramedics, patient sitters
- EMR System: Paragon
- Respiratory Therapy: RT completes respiratory treatments and ABGs
- Telemetry: No monitor techs; RNs must interpret ECG rhythms
- Imaging: X-Ray and CT located next to ER
- Phlebotomy: Performed by techs or nurses
- Dress Code: Navy scrubs
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Emergency Department nursing
Additional Notes
- Candidates must not have been employed full-time, part-time, or PRN within the past year at any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system.
- The hospital uses an outdated EMR system.
- No call or standby requirements.
- Nurses manage their own ER holds as there is no separate holding area.
- No psych/seclusion rooms available on the unit.
