Unit Information
- Department: Respiratory Therapy
- Facility Size: 500+ beds
- Staff: Approximately 30 respiratory therapists
- Shifts:
- Day Shift: 6 therapists including charge person
- Night Shift: 5 therapists including charge person
- Patient Ratios: Not specified
- Equipment Used: EPOC Blood Gases, PB 840, Newport, ReVel, LTV, V60
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System: Meditech
- Floating Areas: CICU, SICU, MICU, step down units
- Dress Code: Royal Blue scrubs
- Weekend/On-call: Rotating weekends, 3 twelve-hour night shifts (7pm – 7am)
Typical Procedures
- Basic floor therapies: Nebulizer treatments, Chest Physiotherapy (CPT), Nocturnal Pulse Oximetry, Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) collection
- BiPAP and ventilator management
- Extubation
- ICU experience preferred
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Virginia
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist, including experience within the last year
- NBRC certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Completion of a competency examination for respiratory therapists or education on managing the risks of hazardous drugs according to USP 800 guidelines
