Description
ICU Registered Nurse Travel Assignment
Location: Kearney, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced ICU RN for a travel assignment in a Central Nebraska hospital. The unit is a 10-bed ICU with an average daily census of 5+ patients, providing care for adults and some pediatric patients under 8 years old requiring ICU-level care. Patient types include open heart surgery, CHF, COPD, overdoses, sepsis, CVAs with TPA, DKA, and some neuro cases (no ICP monitoring yet). The unit participates in a TeleStroke program.
Shift & Scheduling
- 12-hour night shifts (0600-1830 or 1800-0630)
- Approximately 36 hours per week
- Typically scheduled for 2 weekends per month; may require more depending on unit needs
- May require up to 2 extra shifts every 6 weeks
- No self-scheduling or blocked scheduling; schedules based on unit needs
- Expected to be punctual and adhere to lunch breaks
- Floating required to PCU and Med Surg units as needed, with travelers floated first
- Holiday coverage includes 1 major and 1 minor holiday every other week
Required Qualifications
- Active, unencumbered Nebraska RN license or multi-state compact license in good standing
- Minimum 2 years ICU experience, including cardiac experience
- Certifications:
- BLS (AHA or ARC)
- ACLS (AHA or ARC)
- PALS (AHA or ARC) — PALS is required for all; pediatric experience highly preferred
- NIHSS
- Experience with:
- Balloon pumps (IABP)
- Impella device
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Day 2/Day 3 post-op CABG patients
- EPIC electronic health record experience preferred
Additional Information
- Scrub colors allowed: Navy Blue, Black, or Charcoal Grey
- Team-oriented work environment
- Patient-to-nurse ratios typically 1:1 or 1:2 for lower acuity patients
- Termination possible after 3 call-outs due to attendance expectations
This assignment is ideal for ICU RNs with strong cardiac and critical care skills who are flexible with floating and weekend coverage.
