Description

Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Sitka, Alaska
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights/Days/Variable
Hours per Week: 36


Position Summary

  • Provide nursing care for patients of all ages, independently completing assignments based on provider orders, nursing policies, and hospital standards.
  • Make clinical decisions independently during shifts and maintain accountability for all actions.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to CNAs/Techs.
  • Deliver safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients with multisystem diseases or treatment complications.
  • Administer age-specific medications and therapeutics accurately.
  • Coordinate patient care activities with physicians and healthcare team members.
  • Educate patients and families about tests, procedures, disease processes, and discharge instructions.
  • Document patient assessments, care plans, progress, and responses thoroughly and accurately.
  • Participate in patient care conferences and contribute to unit goal setting.
  • Support orientation and mentoring of new staff, travelers, and students.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Alaska.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum of one year of recent Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience within the last year.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.

Additional Requirements & Information

  • Must have or obtain flu vaccination.
  • Start date will be no less than 5 weeks after fingerprint cards are received for processing.
  • Must live at least 50 miles away from the facility to be eligible for this travel contract.
  • Housing and flights are not provided.

Work Environment & Responsibilities

  • Participate in at least 50% of departmental staff meetings and apply information presented.
  • Comply with scheduling guidelines, dress code, and complete annual competencies and evaluations.
  • Address unresolved patient, visitor, or coworker issues through appropriate management channels.
  • Support nursing services mission by assigning staff to productive tasks and floating as needed.

This position requires a highly skilled and independent nurse capable of managing complex patient care in an Emergency Department setting with a commitment to professional standards and continuous learning.
