Description
Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry Unit
Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours; 18:45–7:15)
Hours per Week: 36 (option for 48 hours available)
Patient Population:
- Renal and limb preservation patients (lower extremity)
- ESRD, ARF, vascular procedures, CHF, diabetics, diabetic foot ulcers
Unit Details
- 41-bed inpatient telemetry unit focused on renal and limb preservation patients
- Hemodialysis patients treated in a separate dialysis unit; peritoneal dialysis initiated by dialysis team on unit
- Interdisciplinary team includes hospitalists, RN navigators, RNs, nursing assistants, dietary, PT/OT, pharmacy
- Unit systems: Pyxis, EPIC, SBAR
- Self-scheduling based on unit needs
- Float requirement: Yes
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6
- Orientation: 24 hours (2 shifts with preceptor plus EMR education)
- Scrubs: Not provided; colors navy or white
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Skills in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
Preferred Qualifications
- ACLS certification
- NIH Stroke certification
Patient Diagnoses and Care Focus
- Care for patients with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), Acute Renal Failure (ARF), congestive heart failure (CHF), diabetes, diabetic foot ulcers, and vascular procedures
- Focus on limb preservation
Scheduling and Work Expectations
- 12-hour night shifts
- 36 or 48 hours per week available
- Floating to other units as needed
- Weekend work every other weekend
Compliance and Onboarding Requirements
- Background check within 6 months required for clinical candidates
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; if past positive TB, documentation required
- Required immunizations/titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Physical exam and health documents per travel agency standards (not required by client for crisis profile)
- Color blindness testing within 1 year
- Medication safety training certificate required
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules including confidentiality, hospital policies, and annual compliance training
- Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract (passport style, white background, business attire)
- Must complete corporate ID setup and log into learning platform within 24 hours of receiving credentials to avoid start delays
Testing and Competency Exams
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam must be completed within 72 hours of assignment start
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required for new contracts
- Color blindness test required within 1 year
- Additional competency exams as applicable
Important Notes
- Return to Office (RTO) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite; call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation
- Interview with manager required before offer
- Candidates must be prepared to float and work every other weekend
- Scrubs are not provided; wear navy or white colors
- Must comply with all facility-specific education and compliance requirements
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized telemetry unit caring for complex renal and vascular patients with a supportive interdisciplinary team. Night shift travel nurses with telemetry skills and at least 2 years of RN experience are encouraged to apply.
