Description
Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (ER)
Location: Renton, Washington
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- ER Registered Nurses needed urgently for night shifts just outside Seattle.
- Work in a 55-bed ER with 4 trauma bays and 8-12 swing beds.
- Fast track (Accelerated Care) unit available with a 5:1 nurse-to-patient ratio.
- Average patient volume: ~250 patients per day.
- Patient population is highly diverse; culturally competent care is essential.
- Team includes nurses, MST (techs and patient sitters), charge nurses, patient flow coordinators, triage nurses, protocol nurses, and 24/7 monitor techs.
- Separate triage area exists; travelers may do triage only after additional orientation and competency testing.
- RNs manage their own ER holds; additional support from other units available for long holds.
- Security staff present in the ED.
- No call or standby requirements; no floating required.
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
- Holiday shifts required.
- Dress code: Royal Blue scrubs for nursing staff.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2+ years of ER nursing experience.
- At least 1 year of trauma center experience.
- Prior travel nursing experience required; no first-time travelers accepted.
- Must hold current certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- 100% Epic EMR experience required—no exceptions.
- Must have a clean license record with no history of medication diversion or endangerment issues (such issues will result in immediate contract cancellation).
Clinical Environment & Responsibilities
- Patient acuity includes STEMI, stroke, DKA, sepsis, trauma, respiratory diseases, and behavioral health cases.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- Main ED: 4:1
- Accelerated Care (Fast Track): 5:1
- Critical Care: 2:1
- RNs perform ABG draws and set up small dose breathing treatments; respiratory therapists manage RT equipment and are available for consults.
- RNs and MSTs perform ECGs.
- RNs required to transport critical patients within the ED.
- Phlebotomy performed by nurses and MSTs.
- Telemetry monitoring done by MST and RNs.
- Orientation includes first day with ED leadership and badging, followed by 2-3 shifts of bedside orientation.
Scheduling & Time Off
- Variable scheduling with 12-hour night shifts.
- Cancellation policy: 1 shift per 2-week period.
- Return-to-Office (RTO) policy allows up to 10 days off without hospital approval for clinical prescreening; additional time or holiday requests require hospital approval.

- Located about 10 minutes south of Seattle, serving a population of over 600,000.
- Area offers abundant outdoor activities: hiking, running trails, waterfalls, skiing (approx. 45 minutes away), and access to national parks and islands.
- Nearby urban attractions include downtown Seattle landmarks, museums, markets, and sports teams.
- Various housing options available including extended stay hotels, apartments with short-term leases, and furnished rentals.
This position is ideal for experienced ER nurses with trauma experience and prior travel nursing background who are comfortable working in a fast-paced, diverse, and high-acuity emergency department.
